Short Rest

short rest is a period of recuperation, at least 10 minutes long, during which a creature does nothing more strenuous than eating, drinking, sleeping, reading, binding wounds, and standing watch. At the end of a short rest, a creature regains all lost hit points.

Hit Point Minimum: A creature must have at least 1 hit point at the start of the short rest to gain its benefits.\ Loot the Bodies: After a battle, a creature can spend 1 minute searching the battlefield to recover projectiles and purloin valuables. This activity can take place during a short rest.\ Second Wind: On occasion, the heroes can summon reserves of energy they didn't know they had. When enemy reinforcements arrive, or when a supposedly vanquished foe revives itself, the GM can declare a second wind. The heroes immediately gain the benefits of a short rest.

The second wind rule is intended only to facilitate multistage battles. It should not be used to bail the heroes out of a difficult encounter.
